Shenzhen People's Hospital was founded in 1946 and is one of Shenzhen's oldest municipal hospitals. It has developed into a general Grade III Class A hospital integrating medical care, teaching, research, preventive care, and health management. The hospital is the First Affiliated Hospital of Southern University of Science and Technology and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University School of Medicine, and it was selected as a key institution in Guangdong's high-level hospital development program in 2018. Development is proceeding under a one-hospital, five-zone, six-location configuration. Current facilities include the main campus at Liuyibu, Longhua Branch, Bantian Campus, Dongmen First Outpatient Department, and Dapeng Translational Medicine Innovation Center, with a new Bao'an hospital planned. Excluding the planned campus, the hospital has 3,060 open beds. In 2024, it recorded approximately 3,790,000 outpatient and emergency visits, approximately 148,000 discharges, and approximately 120,000 surgical procedures, undertaking a large volume of comprehensive and critical care for Shenzhen and surrounding areas. Its National Clinical Key Specialty development projects include respiratory and critical care medicine, general surgery, critical care medicine, and geriatrics. It is also developing a Flagship Project for Coordination of Chinese and Western Medicine, a lung transplantation team, aeromedical rescue, and multiple provincial and municipal Key Specialties and quality-control platforms. Its research and translational system covers stem cells, clinical drug and medical device trials, branches of National Clinical Research Centers, provincial Clinical Research Centers, and municipal innovation platforms. By introducing high-level medical teams involving experts including Zhong Nanshan and Dong Jiahong, the hospital continues to strengthen complex disease care and professional training. Through its two affiliated universities, it provides undergraduate and graduate education and residency and specialist training and advances coordination between teaching and clinical practice. Its multicampus development also provides tiered capacity for outpatient and emergency services, specialty care, research translation, and regional emergency resources. The hospital has received an A+ rating in national performance assessments of Grade III public hospitals for consecutive years. Its multicampus structure, Key Specialty development, and integration of medical care, teaching, and research jointly support its role as a Shenzhen municipal medical center.
